There Is No-Offseason

ISSUE #55

The NFL calendar continues to churn out big events. Even while the NCAA Tournament is ramping up, MLB has its Opening Day, and the NBA and NHL are barreling towards the playoffs, the NFL continues to command headlines and attention. This week, it’s with the NFL Annual League Meeting in Phoenix. Rule changes are typically the biggest storylines that come out of these meetings, but this year’s rule changes were minor in the fantasy football world. The “Tush Push” debate was off the board, and most of the changes that were actually enacted had to do with the kickoff rule.

One interesting rule change was an officiating rule, in anticipation of a potential work stoppage by the referee’s union (the NFLRA). Off-field officials will be able to immediately correct mistakes made by the on-field officials, if there is a work stoppage. As we are in a new league year, there is no labor agreement between the NFL and NFLRA. Many readers will remember the disaster that were the replacement refs during the 2012 season. Hopefully, this rule will help mitigate the impact that replacement refs will have on the game, if the NFL is forced to use them.

In the fantasy world, the rumors coming out of the league’s Annual Meetings were flying this week. AJ Brown trade rumors continue to swirl, as Mike Vrabel didn’t deny an interest in trading for the stud receiver. We heard that Zach Charbonnet will not miss the entire season with his ACL injury. The Dolphins are saying that De’Von Achane is a “pillar” to this roster. There are plenty of rumors and coach-speak for dynasty managers to react, or overreact to this week. Just remember, rumors are only rumors until they are official. You can make dynasty fantasy football moves based on rumors, but vet your sources and dig deeper than just the short quotes and headlines on fantasy football sites.

In last week’s newsletter, we mentioned the news that Jaylen Waddle is on the move after being traded to the Denver Broncos. It was a bit of a surprising trade when it came down the line, but it makes a lot of sense. The Broncos’ offense needed an upgrade at WR1 over Courtland Sutton, and the Dolphins continue to offload assets for a rebuild (dynasty managers know all about that). Now, let’s dig into his value a bit more for dynasty fantasy football leagues.

Caleb Williams’s One Quarterback Dynasty ADP History, per DLF

Williams finished as the QB6 in scoring last year, dropping down to QB9 in fantasy points per game. He was electric, especially in crunchtime situations, earning the nickname “Ice Man”. He’s currently being drafted as the QB7 in one-quarterback drafts and superflex drafts. In superflex, he’s the 12th player off the board, sneaking into the first round of drafts. Meanwhile, in the DLF Expert Superflex Rankings, He drops all the way down to 21st overall, and the QB9 off the board. The rankings have Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert jumping just ahead of Williams.

The excitement for Williams and the Bears is palpable in the dynasty fantasy football community. With Ben Johnson on the headset, managers are going crazy for Luther Burden, Colston Loveland, and Rome Odunze. Caleb Williams is also benefiting from that hype, going much higher in ADP than he is in the rankings. I’m excited for Williams as well, but he still hasn’t put it all together. He still misses routine timing plays and has some of the worst accuracy metrics in the league. Accuracy is hard to teach in the NFL, and can often be the downfall of a career. He lacked consistency and looked shaky drive-to-drive, until they needed him the most. Williams is a fine NFL quarterback, and he has plenty of upside in this offense, but I’d caution against paying a first-round price tag for him in superflex drafts.

Trade the Future. The Final Four Starts Saturday.

The Final Four is set: Arizona, Michigan, UConn, and Illinois all punched their tickets. But watching the games is only half the fun — what if you could put real money behind your predictions?

Kalshi is a federally regulated exchange where you buy and sell contracts based on the outcomes of real-world events. March Madness, elections, economic data, weather — if it's happening, there's probably a market for it.

I'm placing a trade on Arizona to cut down the nets. Their balance on both ends of the floor has been unmatched all tournament. But the beauty of Kalshi is you don't have to agree with me — you just have to have a take.

Eric Hardter ranks the top tier of Forgotten Dynasty Youth

Tim Riordan profiles the top player in all dynasty rookie drafts this season, Jeremiyah Love.

FORGOTTEN DYNASTY YOUTH: TOP TIER

“Forgotten Dynasty Youth” may sound like something of an oxymoron. This is dynasty football, after all, where lack of experience is viewed more as a tick mark in the “pros” column, as it should theoretically allow for additional longevity in the league. And yet the fantasy stock market is occasionally slow to correct itself, potentially yielding values on former blue-chip youngsters. In this space I’ll be seeking to identify such assets.

So, how am I defining youth? It’s a bit of a gray area. You can use years in the league, age, or amounts of total repetitions, with the latter particularly important at the running back position. But because youthful assets, particularly those selected early in the NFL Draft, tend to maintain dynasty staying power, a higher ADP doesn’t mean they’re not “forgotten.” As such any single metric may not be appropriate here. But one way or another, these will be guys who were once highly esteemed, and who I think may have since fallen a bit off the radar.

Where there will be structure is in the tiers, which will be threefold and as follows:

  • Top Tier: ADP < 84.0 (first seven rounds of a 12-team startup draft)

  • Middle Tier: ADP > 84.1 and < 168.0 (rounds eight through 14 in a startup draft)

  • Bottom Tier: ADP > 168.1 (the rest)

I’ll be looking at four players per tier. Let’s conclude with the Top Tier!

ADP: 35.3

Age: 24 years

As can be discerned from the above, McConkey simply wasn’t anywhere near as productive in 2025 as he was as a 2024 rookie. He went from just under 15 PPR points per game to 11.3, and as shown in the bottom graphic the output from his average target went down nearly a half-point. All told he finished as the PPR WR29, exactly one spot below teammate Keenan Allen.

Not shockingly this was also borne out in his counting stats, which went down across the board despite only receiving six fewer targets in the same amount of games played. Despite functioning with the exact same aDOT, McConkey’s yards per reception went down by 2 yards, and his yards per target went down by nearly 3. He lost 11% off his catch percentage, and even his advanced metrics such as broken tackles and drops were worse.

So, uh, there’s good news, right?

I know there aren’t any NFL games until August, but the NBA and college basketball are going strong! If you haven’t yet played at BNF, no worries! The game is a simple one. Pick MORE or LESS on a player’s stat line and add a few other picks to turn that entry into much, much more.
