There Is No-Offseason
ISSUE #56

Off-season workouts are starting up around the league. Attendance at these workouts are voluntary, so we’ll often see veteran players sit them out. One such player this off-season is De’Von Achane, who is eligible for a contract extension from the Dolphins. It isn’t anything to panic about yet, but it could be a harbinger for further contract disputes between the star running back and his team. Achane has been said to be a “pillar” of this team, even while the front office tears the roster down and trades away assets. As a pillar, it’s safe to assume that the Dolphins are interested in locking up Achane long-term, but the numbers need to work out for both sides! On the other hand, Kyle Pitts signed his franchise tag, officially reporting to workouts. Lamar Jackson also reported for the beginning of Ravens’ workouts.
The NFL announced this past week that Rashee Rice will not face discipline over abuse allegations from an ex-girlfriend. The NFL claims they investigated the accusations and determined that there was “insufficient evidence” against Rice to prove a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. With Rice off the hook, dynasty managers can plan on having the star receiver in their starting lineups for week one of the fantasy football season. With that being said, it will likely be backup quarterback Justin Fields under center to start the season for the Chiefs while Patrick Mahomes recovers from his ACL injury.
The NFL Draft is only two weeks away, and then the real fun of dynasty fantasy football begins! Rookies are making Top 30 visits and having their final discussions with interested teams in the leadup to the big weekend. The rookie draft is the best part of dynasty leagues, and the thing that really differentiates it from season-long leagues. The urgency of the event is one of the things that, I think, makes it even more fun. Right after the draft concludes, many league managers will go on the clock, and most leagues will begin their draft within the next month. There’s no time to sit around and analyze landing spots, listen to coach speak, or be fooled by training camp reports. You’re on the clock right now and you need to make your player decision with a lot of the same knowledge that the NFL teams had when these players were selected!
With the lightning quick turnaround, it’s so critical to make sure you’re locked into everything DLF is putting out right now. You’ll be more prepared for the speed of rookie draft season than anyone else in your league. Read our ongoing rookie profile series to get an in-depth, early look at each prospect and be ready to pivot when the draft capital and landing spots are learned. Dynasty managers are getting excited to select Jeremiyah Love with the first overall pick in all formats of dynasty leagues. We haven’t seen this much hype surrounding a rookie running back since…well…last year with Ashton Jeanty. Despite all of the hype and the massive draft capital, Jeanty is coming off a disappointing season. He played in every game, and he looked fine, but he only finished as the RB16 in fantasy points per game. Let’s do a dynasty price check on Aston Jeanty, one season after he received the Jeremiyah Love treatment. Is there a buying opportunity after his down rookie season?

Ashton Jeanty’s Dynasty ADP History, per DLF.
Jeanty’s ADP topped out at 6.17 overall last summer, and bottomed out at 14.17 in January. It’s leveled out between those two points at 9.5 overall. He’s the RB3 in startup drafts after Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs, and he’s going at the tail end of the first round. The DLF Expert Rankings also have him at RB3, but they bump him down the board a bit to 13th overall, just outside of the first round.
I included Jeanty in my recent article titled Five Players to Fade at ADP in Dynasty Startup Drafts. That’s because I wouldn’t use a first-round pick on him in a one-quarterback startup draft. The team context in Las Vegas is terrible. They made some improvements to the offensive line, but there was a long way to go for that unit to become respectable. Fernando Mendoza will provide a boost to the worst offense in the league, but there’s bound to be growing pains. Finally, new Head Coach Klint Kubiak mentioned bringing in a “wingman” to “share the load” with Jeanty. I still think Jeanty is an RB1, but not a first-round pick. I wouldn’t say he is a sell, but I’d take the 1.01 for him in this year’s rookie draft!

DYNASTY MARKETPLACE:
2026 FREE AGENCY
Welcome to the Dynasty Marketplace – providing reaction, market projection and advice for assets across the dynasty landscape. Every week during the regular season and at key events in the off-season, I’ll be highlighting four trending assets to discuss their value projection and the recommended actions at the dynasty marketplace.
Kyler Murray/JJ McCarthy, QBs MIN
Market Rank: ~QB23/~QB31
Market Value: ~2026 mid-to-late first round pick/2026 mid-to-late second round pick
Value Trend: Positive/Negative
Volatility: High/Medium
Small deal, small man, big move – with quarterback Kyler Murray signed as a free agent, on a one-year $1.3m veteran minimum deal, with no tag clause, allowing him to become a free agent again in 2027. Financially, it is a steal for the Vikings, with his former team (the Cardinals) paying him $36.8m as a post-June 1st release. The other side to the quarterback battle in Minnesota is the incumbent starter JJ McCarthy, who is now in year three of a $21.85m four-year rookie deal, with the fifth-year option decision due after the 2026 regular season.
Murray has hardly been a prolific winner, with a 38-48-1 record in his career, over seven seasons, of which two have been cut short by injury. Murray is also 0-1 in the playoffs, with the 2021 wildcard loss 34-11 to Rams his only appearance, and a bad one at that, accumulating 137 passing yards, two interceptions and a career-low quarterback rating (40.9). In the four seasons Murray has played at least 65% of the games he has been a QB1 in fantasy each time – including the QB3 overall in 2020. Despite fantasy success, Murray has failed to hit 4000 passing yards in a season, but has consistently been strong as a dual-threat runner, where he has averaged at least 30 rushing yards per game in every season of his career. The market has appreciated the fresh start and a great opportunity for Murray to remain a starter in the league, valued as a borderline QB2/3 but with potential to rise significantly if able to win the starting job in time.
McCarthy has had a rollercoaster couple of seasons since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2024, looking impressive in both his first training camp and pre-season, before a right knee injury cost him his entire rookie season. As a sophomore he came back and was only able to register 10 starts, with an ankle injury ruling him out week three to week eight, a concussion causing missed time in week 13 and a right hand fracture in week 17. In fantasy McCarthy was hugely disappointing, scoring as the QB32 in fantasy points per game (FPPG), with 50% of his starts inside the top-15 and 50% of his starts outside the top 25. McCarthy produced a 6-4 record as a starter and was also 27-1 in college, showing an ability to win despite limited success in fantasy production. The Vikings went 14-3 with quarterback Sam Darnold starting in McCarthy’s injury-hit rookie season, let him go in 2025 and saw him win the Super Bowl with the Seahawks, which is bound to hurt McCarthy’s perception even further, adding to the rumours of the Vikings coveting Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones last off-season.
The market views the addition of Murray as a setback for McCarthy and history tells us the newest member in a quarterback battle is a high-probability to get a shot at a point, see Jones versus Anthony Richardson on the 2025 Colts. Murray is the man to be betting on in dynasty, a great situation for fantasy with strong weapons in Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson, plus proven QB1 numbers when healthy. It is easy to see a pathway back to success for Murray and a starting job beyond 2026, whether it be the Vikings or elsewhere. I think Murray was a buy for most of 2025 and is still a cost-effective target at QB23 value.
It is a trickier evaluation with McCarthy, a young 21-year-old entering the league, effectively 2025 being his rookie season after missing 2024 and clearly needing significant game time to develop. McCarthy’s career arc could follow a similar pathway to Darnold, in the sense of a young rookie quarterback who struggled well into his career, but also be cautious McCarthy could bounce around and tail off in a big way. In dynasty I’m likely selling McCarthy and certainly not acquiring at this stage, as he is rostered most likely as a QB3/4, so difficult to hold in smaller bench leagues. The best-case scenario could be winning the starting job with a short leash and cashing out immediately, pivoting to a more stable asset.

Kyler Murray/JJ McCarthy ADP – DLF ADP Over Time.
