There Is No-Offseason

ISSUE #54

Welcome to the “smoke screen” season of the NFL calendar. With Pro Days occurring around the league and only a handful of weeks left before the Draft, teams and players are jockeying for position. Players (primarily through their agents) are attempting to move up the draft board, and teams are identifying the players that they want to select in April. With that, we get stories strategically leaked to the media. This week alone, we heard Ty Simpson is skyrocketing up people’s draft boards, and that nobody wants to draft Makai Lemon. There may be truth to these stories, but they may also be smoke screens attempting to change the national perspective. A team could be pumping up Simpson, hoping to force another team to trade up for him. Another team could be spreading rumors about Lemon to push him down the board, hoping that they’ll fall to their pick. You need to take every story, rumor, and tweet with a grain of salt this time of year. Check your sources, and don’t overreact to anything that isn’t official.

College Pro Days have been going on for the better part of a month, but now they’re really starting to ramp up. This week, we already saw dozens of schools, including Miami, LSU, Auburn, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, and Nebraska have their Pro Days. Florida and Texas are on the board for today, and tomorrow Florida State, Mississippi State, and Arizona State are amongst the teams taking the field. Earlier this month, Makai Lemon ran a 40-yard dash measured at 4.46 seconds. Pro Day data can be skewed, so take any data from Pro Days with a grain of salt, but that puts him in about the middle of the pack compared to other Combine receivers (faster than Carnell Tate’s 4.53).

At the professional level, Jaxon Smith-Njigba set a new standard in the wide receiver market, becoming the highest-paid receiver in APY in NFL history. He’s now locked in through the 2031 season in Seattle, signing a four-year, $168.6 million contract ($42.15 million APY). Congrats to all of the JSN dynasty managers who were patient with his lean rookie season, he’s clearly one of the best wide receivers and dynasty fantasy assets in the game. It’s a nice reminder that rookie year production can lead to drastic overreactions. There’s a delicate balance to find between being too reactive and too careful. Finding that balance is key to being a winning dynasty manager.

The best thing you can do to help lock in on that balance is to keep following and subscribing to the analysis over at Dynasty League Football. Our Pre-Draft Rookie Profiles are being released daily, and they’re the best way to thoroughly introduce you to the 2026 rookie class. In last week’s newsletter, we mentioned the news that Jaylen Waddle is on the move after being traded to the Denver Broncos. It was a bit of a surprising trade when it came down the line, but it makes alot of sense. The Broncos offense needed an upgrade at WR1 over Courtland Sutton, and the Dolphins continue to off-load assets for a rebuild (dynasty managers know all about that). Now, let’s dig into his value a bit more for dynasty fantasy football leagues.

Jaylen Waddle’s Dynasty ADP History, per DLF

Waddle’s ADP bottomed out last season at 55.25, the lowest it’s been since his rookie season. It bumped up a bit during his WR24 season, but started dipping again this off-season with the rebuilding vibes in Miami. Now that he’s been traded, his ADP has bounced back up to where it was at the end of this season. He’s the 37th player off the board now, and the 21st wide receiver. The DLF Expert Rankings have him in a very similar spot, WR22 and 38th overall.

This is a good trade for Jaylen Waddle’s dynasty value. He’s joining the Broncos, where Sean Payton will design the offense along with new OC Davis Webb. He’ll catch passes from Bo Nix, a major upgrade from Tua Tagovailoa and the carousel of backup quarterbacks behind him. He won’t be splitting targets with Tyreek Hill here, instead it will be Courtland Sutton. I like where the ADP and rankings have him right now, at about WR 20-22, but I think that’s closer to his floor than his ceiling. He has the upside to be a WR1 in dynasty. We’ve seen him be a WR1 in his career, and this might be the best situation he’s ever been in. He’s also in his prime years at 27 years-old, with plenty of tread on the tire. He’s someone I’d consider buying at cost right now.
