THERE IS NO OFF-SEASON
ISSUE #52

It’s been a crazy week in the National Football League! The legal tampering period has passed, and the league has officially turned the calendar into the new 2026-2027 season. This is always an exciting week, but this season seemed extra special with the Maxx Crosby drama. After agreeing to send two first-round picks to Las Vegas for Crosby, Baltimore pulled out of the deal after Crosby’s physical. While the trade was still on, the Raiders committed nearly $300 million on the first day of the tampering period to free agents. After pulling out of the trade, the Ravens went ahead and signed Trey Hendrickson to immediately replace the pass-rusher they thought they would be getting in Crosby. It’s a crazy turn of events, but it’s all legal. The Ravens have the right to fail Crosby on his physical and pull out of the trade, and the Raiders are stuck in a tough situation. They need to get Crosby off the books, but they can’t sell him at a discounted price than what they charged Baltimore. Meanwhile, the other 30 teams in the league know he failed a physical, and probably don’t think he’s worth two first-round picks anymore. It’s a fascinating story and one that will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months.
All the headlines weren’t on the defensive side of the ball, there was a flurry of signings and transactions that have major implications for fantasy football. I’ll cover the biggest ones here, starting with Quarterback and Malik Willis. He’s joining the Dolphins for the upcoming season, replacing Tua Tagovailoa as the starter. It’s a big risk the Dolphins are taking, but it’s definitely the best option they have to avoid a full teardown. Willis and De’Von Achane will combine for a dangerous backfield running attack, while they’ll be able to manufacture touches for Jaylen Waddle in the passing game. He’ll be a solid QB2 for superflex managers, and the rest of the players on the team shouldn’t see a major dropoff in fantasy production.
At running back, the two major moves were Kenneth Walker going to the Chiefs and Travis Etienne going to the Saints. Etienne got more money with the Saints, but I think Walker is the one who saw his fantasy value go up the most. There’s no legitimate competition for touches in the Kansas City backfield (for now), and the offense should have a bounce-back season once Mahomes is healthy. Etienne joins another crowded backfield in New Orleans. Even if Alvin Kamara moves on, Devin Neal and Kendre Miller are still going to be involved. It’s also a much lower volume offense than the Chiefs or Jaguars are expected to be. He’ll absolutely get a majority of the backfield touches, but it’s at best a lateral move for his fantasy value.
The wide receiver carousel kicked off with Alec Pierce deciding to stay in Indianapolis, signing a four-year deal. With Pierce locked up, the Colts went ahead and traded Michael Pittman to the Steelers, a blow to his dynasty value. The other big signings were Mike Evans going to the 49ers and Wan’Dale Robinson to the Titans. Evans could become a major red zone target for Brock Purdy, especially with George Kittle missing time with an Achilles injury. He’s certainly past his prime, but it sounds like the Buccaneers tried really hard to bring him back. I think that’s a great sign for his health and longevity. As for Robinson, he follows Brian Daboll to Nashville, where he’ll likely be Cam Ward’s primary target in year one. Robinson had a breakout season last year with Malik Nabers injured, and now he won’t have to compete with Nabers for touches going forward.
Finally, at tight end, the most interesting move was Isaiah Likely signing a three-year contract with the New York Giants. Likely has played the first four years of his career under Mark Andrews’s shadow, and now he’ll finally get the chance to be the number one tight end on a team that needed an answer at the position. He’s following John Harbaugh to Baltimore, so he has some familiarity with the way the Head Coach runs things, and the offense shouldn’t be a major shift. It’s the perfect landing spot for Likely, and I believe we’ll start to see him getting drafted amongst the top 12 tight ends.
There were plenty of other moves around the league, and plenty more moves to come as we inch closer and closer to April’s NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. Malik Willis managers in dynasty are doing backflips this week. In superflex, there is a finite amount of starting quarterbacks, and you’re often forced to stash and hope backup quarterbacks, hoping to one day see them become the starter. This year’s marquee backup-to-starter appears to be Willis, who the Dolphins just locked up on a three-year, $67.5 million deal. Even better, he has legitimate fantasy football upside! His best weapon is his ability to run the ball, and he averaged 30.8 yards per game on the ground. Now that Willis has a starting role for next year, let’s take a look at his value in dynasty leagues and how much we can expect it to change.

Malik Willis’s Dynasty ADP History, per DLF.
Willis was basically off the board in one-quarterback ADP for years after he flamed out with the Titans. He obviously carried more value in superflex leagues, so he may have been a late-round draft pick in startup drafts during that time. Right now, he’s the QB31 in DLF’s Dynasty Superflex Rankings, going off the board at 173 overall. In the Superflex Dynasty ADP for the month of March, he’s the QB28 and was drafted at 111 overall. Most of these numbers haven’t been updated since the signing, but it was assumed that he would have a starting job next year. With these numbers in mind, Willis seems like a great value, but they will change over the coming weeks.
Willis has only started six games in the NFL and three since his rookie season. He’s only had 155 pass attempts and six touchdowns. Even with this contract, he’s a risky play for dynasty fantasy leagues, especially in superflex, where he’ll be much more expensive. There isn’t even a guarantee that there won’t be an off-season competition for the job between him and Quinn Ewers. At the prices listed above, I’m buying on Willis, but I’m certain that price tag is going to go up now that the contract is agreed upon. I consider him in the mid-twenties in my quarterback rankings, higher than the QB31 he currently is in the DLF rankings.
